'Cept When She Leaves Hair On The Soap

With all her foibles I can cope

'Cept when she leaves hair on the soap

by Simon (for me)

So, we have designated bars of soap in the shower. Although lately with the cost of everything it's cheaper to just buy one big thing of Ivory. That gets confusing.

Maybe the hair helps, though.

Yesterday was Simon and I's 5 year anniversary! Not of marriage, or "going out" or whatever else. But of literally (oh gosh I have teenagers in my home)

MEETING.

So we listened to the infamous recording of that fateful moment. Cause we actually have it!

Cringe!!! (yes I do have teenagers in my home)

Cringey! Cringe-o-rama! Cringe-fest!

I mean, he was cringed out by himself, barely able to listen to the recording. Halfway leaving the room like oh gosh I can't believe I said that. (Hello! I'm HERE!!!)

I didn't expect to be cringed out by myself (what does that say about me?!)...but oh gosh I was. "I have a YouTube channel," I'd told him, about 30 seconds in.

!!!!!!!

Ok ok to be fair it was because he was recording a podcast and I thought oh wow he likes to podcast hey I like to put stuff out there too! But...the way I SOUNDED!!!

"Hey stop having so much fun!" S

"Hahahaha. Ok!" M (or something like that geesh Joey--our little Joey love-child who is the sweetest of the sweetest except when he's a grouch(!)--was interrupting at every second when we re-listened! probably cause it was so cringe!)

"See you later!" S

"Ok, yeah see you next time!" M

".......Hey! Do you wanna have a drink with me?" S

...........

(voice closer) "Who ARE you?!" M

...........

Cringe. On both our parts. But ohhhhh so funny.

And the things Simon had been TALKING about prior to talking to me! Mentioning, in his supposed-to-be podcast rambles about walking around trying to interact with people on a sunny Sunday, "Most people don't want to talk to you...but sometimes,

sometimes you get into a long conversation."

...........

We sure did.

Looking back 5 years, the things we talked about on the very first interaction (and things not on the recording, that I remember) have coloured our relationship, woven in and out of it ever since.

I wish everyone could have this gift we have, of this kind of recording. Wouldn't it be amazing?

You know how sometimes you just have those hair on the soap things, things that drive you nuts. Or make you absolutely irate! Or...that general life-less lull of the duldrums that creeps in and numbs you out to the reason you're together in the first place. And...yes sometimes people change in ways not conducive, or reveal themselves in ways not conducive, or something happens...and maybe even a recording of a first meeting wouldn't help!

But, at the very least, it could be CRINGE!

And how centering. How humbling; that cringe.

What a reminder of who we truly are, too: lovely, love-seeking, often cringey people. Needing that soulmate to compliment in just the right way. For that long conversation.
